SA 7: Botanical Drawing With Pen and Watercolor Wash
Instructor: Carol Ann Morley

7 Weeks
Tuesday 6:00 - 9:00 PM (March 8 - April 26)

No Class March 22nd

This mixed media workshop brings together the beauty of pen and ink line with the sparkle of watercolor washes. The pen and ink line will form the tonal drawing of the plant giving it visual depth, while the watercolor wash shows the beauty of the flower's color. This technique resembles the early hand colored botanical engravings. In class you will start with a strong foundation of pen and ink techniques using the crowquill pen and technical pen to gain a working ink vocabulary. Ink techniques you will learn include: stipple dots and crosshatch lines to create tone, texture, and form, and contour ink line drawing. The first few classes will concentrate on acquiring proficiency in pen and ink techniques before proceeding to watercolor washes over your ink drawings. All levels of students, beginners welcome.
