Specifically concentrating on surface treatments for metals through demonstration and discussion, we will incorporate the use of heat textures, such as reticulation. We will explore methods to achieve patterns through acid etching and discuss color through techniques like enameling and marriage of metals. The ancient methods of forming and texturing; chasing and repousse, will be investigated. At the end of this course, each student will have an understanding of how color and texture effect metals, and will have the ability to translate a design with patterns or texture into a piece of jewelry.
