SA 4: Wax Carving
Instructor: Alice Carroll

5 Weeks
Tuesday 2:00 - 5:00 PM (March 7 - April 4)

This course explores wax carving techniques. When working in wax, the result tends to be heavier and more sculptural than a fabricated piece. We will discuss designing in wax versus metal. Through demonstration and work time, the student will discover the difference between carving and modeling wax. We will also investigate the use of organic materials and plastics to create models. We will discuss the use of tools and making tools to work the wax. At the end of the course, each student will complete several wax models and will have the knowledge to take it beyond the course to their own studio.
