SA 13: Silver Casting
Instructor:
Alice Carroll
6 Weeks
Thursday
9:00 - 12:00 PM
(March 8 - April 12)
Students will purchase silver as part of a group order.
This course will focus on the lost wax process for casting jewelry. The original piece is first created in materials such as wax, plastics or styrofoam. A mold is then made and molten metal is poured into the mold. We will learn a variety of model making techniques, learn how to invest a mold, and pour the metal with the use of a centrifical casting machine. Lost wax casting is an exciting process, and has many important steps, which will be covered through a series of demonstrations. Each student will have an opportunity to create several models and see them through to a finished cast piece. All levels welcome.
