SA 15: Botanical Drawing
Instructor: Carol Ann Morley

7 Weeks
Thursday 1:30 - 4:30 PM (February 1 - March 15)

Throughout the centuries, artists have portrayed plants for their aesthetic beauty and for the purpose of identification. This course will introduce students to the art of Botanical illustration and it's traditions and conventions. Students will work from live plants using graphite pencils, learning how to develop an accurate botanical drawing. Class instruction includes: observing and recording plant strictures, measuring proportions, creating a contour drawing, rendering details of plant parts, exercises in graphite shading and 3D form, and the aesthetic placement of plant parts on a page.
