The New England landscape holds a serious attraction for artists. The compelling quality of rocky shores, moody marshes, rural farms and lanes and active small town vignettes are perfect subjects for the aspiring landscape painter. Painting "en plein air", on location along the seacoast, students will explore the processes of outdoor painting, learning the basics of blocking in a painting to capture light and mood with a focus on simple shapes and values. We'll also take advantage of modern technology and take photographic reference of our subjects so that, in case of inclement weather you could compose a more "finished" work in the Sanctuary Arts Studio with your plein air sketches and photos as reference.
