An introduction to sculpting the portrait in clay, this class covers a method of blocking the proportions and planes of the head and an analysis of individual features, along with an emphasis on observational modeling techniques. Life models are used throughout the course to aid in the study of proportion and basic anatomy. Students will learn to prepare pieces for kiln firing. This class is suitable for beginners as well as more advanced sculptors who wish to work intensively with the live model. Firing pieces costs a penny a cubic inch in the Sanctuary Arts kiln, or the student may wish to contact Green Foundry at Sanctuary Arts for pricing on moldmaking and casting.
