      <image:title>Sean Beavers - sean beavers</image:title>
<image:caption>Sean Beavers attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City on scholarship. He earned a B.F.A. and graduated with the Rhodes family medal for outstanding achievement. Sean's art has been in numerous exhibits in and around the New York metropolitan area, and in Maine and New Hampshire. He began teaching in 1998 as a way to share some of his art knowledge with others. He has been associated with three schools—New Hampshire Institute of Art, University of New Hampshire at Manchester and Sanctuary Arts (in Eliot, Maine). He doesn’t believe you can teach someone what to paint; you can only provide the tools “to allow them to communicate.” Sean Beavers has been best known for his still lifes, exquisite studies of a range of objects, including fruits and flowers, often presented within or atop a framing device—a weathered box, a wood panel. His painstaking, poetic realism, which sometimes features elements of trompe-l’oeil, ties him to nineteenth-century masters as well as to contemporary practitioners. Sean’s landscape paintings offer broad views of sea and sky, with clouds, tidal flats and low-lying islands drawing the eye into the distance. Sometimes wide-angled, they connect us with the sublime. Sean began combining still lifes and landscape. Going back and forth between the two subjects, he thought to present some of his objects in the outdoors, showcasing them in dramatic natural light. To capture the essence of a chosen scene, Beavers makes oil sketches on site, and then translates them into larger canvases that are part reality, part invention. The process is time-honored, harking back to the Hudson River school painters who worked from plein air studies in their studios. Like his predecessors, Beavers seeks to capture light, color and value, sometimes supplementing these aide-mémoires with photographs and drawings. When speaking of influences, Beavers first mentions his School of Visual Arts painting teacher Steven Assael, a realist of national renown. Further afield in time and place, he expresses admiration for Albrecht Durer and such contemporaries as the Chilean Claudio Bravo and Spaniard Antonio López García. The eminent realist Alan Magee has provided guidance on a couple of occasions. Work as an art restorer has affected Beavers’ approach to paint. Over the years, he has been involved with restoring work by John Singer Sargent, Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Church and many other artists. “Working on those paintings was like a second education for me,” Beavers states. Studying the way these masters layered paint, created texture, mixed colors—such an intimate interaction has helped him understand painting at a profound level. <image:caption>Alice Carroll received her BFA from Maine College of Art and an MFA from Rochester Institute of Technology. After receiving her MFA, she was selected to be an Artist in Residence at Penland School of Crafts. During her residency she acted as the Metals Studio Coordinator. This gave her the opportunity to meet with some wonderful metalsmiths and start to share some of her knowledge. During this time she developed a jewelry line that she sold wholesale across the country. She also explored working in metal on a large scale, forming vessels and later, wall hangings in copper and bronze. She returned to Maine after her residency ended, and began teaching workshops. In 1998, she became the Head of the Metals Department at Heartwood College of Art, where her love of teaching began. In 2003, she joined Sanctuary Arts as the metals instructor, and also later began teaching at River Tree Arts. During this time she realized how much she wanted to teach and share what she knew and became certified to teach art in the State of Maine. She has had the opportunity to teach workshops at several locations, including Kennebunk Public Schools, and in many private forums. She continues to produce and sell her work, and uses her classes as inspiration. She considers teaching classes as an art form, and enjoys every moment in the studio with students. Along with teaching, she divides her time between custom work, one of a kind jewelry, a production line for wholesale and retail, and large scale sculptural pieces. She feels very fortunate to have been able to work as a metalsmith for over 30 years. www.alicecarrolldesigncenter.com</image:caption>

He has also trained with master painters Anthony Ryder, Michael Grimaldi, and Steven Assael. Additionally, he was a founding member of Jacob Collins’ Hudson River Fellowship, participating in its first two years. In 2009, Southwest Art Magazine named Langstaff one of “21 Under 31: Artists to Collect Now.” His work has been featured in The Artist’s Magazine and several instructional books. A two-time recipient of the Stacey Foundation Grant, he has also been a multiple-time finalist in the Art Renewal Center Salon. In 2012, he was invited to exhibit at the inaugural World of Art Showcase at the Wynn Las Vegas Resort. Langstaff has shown his work in galleries across the United States and is currently represented by the Bowersock Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts. A dedicated portraitist, Langstaff has completed commissions for clients throughout the country, including the Arlington Club in Portland, Oregon, and the Musser family, former owners of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Since 2013, he has been an active figure in Southern Maine’s art education community, teaching at Sanctuary Arts in Eliot and the Maine College of Art in Portland. He currently co-teaches at the Aristides Atelier, an online classical atelier founded by his former mentor, Juliette Aristides. Originally from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Langstaff has lived in various parts of the United States and Europe. He has spent much of his adult life in two opposite corners of the U.S.—the Pacific Northwest and New England. A two-year residence in Prague, Czech Republic, provided him the opportunity to explore Europe’s great museums and deepen his artistic studies. Today, he resides on the southern coast of Maine, where, when not painting, he enjoys exploring the region’s coastline and mountains. Portfolio | Joshua Langstaff | Fine Artist</image:caption>

Anthony graduated with a BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design and traveled to Italy to study at the Florence Academy of Art for a foundation in traditional sculpture. After moving to Maine, he worked for 8 years in business management and discovered his passion for sculpture was inescapable. Anthony now works as a full-time sculptor. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in both national and international competitions. “I see fine art as a language. It communicates powerful truths that are uniquely human in a way that words cannot express. Art becomes relevant when we can relate to it on a deeper, spiritual level. My sculptures are more than just portraits and figures. They tell a story. Sometimes that story is literal, sometimes metaphorical, but it’s always human.” ANTHONY ALEMANY</image:caption>
