Kim Hanson

Kim was introduced to pottery as a hobby with the intent of learning a new craft.  After a few classes she was hooked. She immersed herself into this new hobby and has been developing her skill and artistic style. Kim is passionate about the entire pottery experience.  She has studied ceramics at many local community studios in southern Maine/eastern New Hampshire.

She has studied and worked under the direction of local functional potter/teacher Lindsey Howarth, sculpture & functional artist/teacher Erica Hood, handbuilding instructor Paisley Hanson, and UNH pottery adjunct professor Emily Wernig. Currently, Kim works as a studio-tech at Sanctuary Arts and is a teacher assistant at Chase’s Garage. Kim graduated from University of Maine Farmington with a B.S. in education. She has taught mathematics for 28 years, 20 in the Adult Education field. Her love of new teaching strategies and creating a positive open environment for students to explore and improve skills is a driving force behind her work. As an educator she shares with students that mistakes are valuable and they are to be dissected, explored, and learned from.
