SA 6 CLASSICAL FIGURE PAINTING with Joshua Langstaff

$435.00

10 Weeks

Tuesday 6 - 9

October 13 – December 15

This course explores the classical approach to painting the human figure from life. Working directly from a live model, students will develop a sustained figure painting over several weeks, progressing from an accurate drawing through successive stages of painting. Demonstrations and individual instruction will emphasize careful observation, proportion, value, color, edges, and the use of light and shadow to create the illusion of form. Rooted in the classical atelier tradition, this approach reflects the methods that shaped artists such as Jean-Léon Gérôme, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, and Pablo Picasso. While prior drawing experience is recommended, students will receive guidance appropriate to their level and will gain a deeper understanding of how strong draftsmanship forms the foundation of expressive and convincing figure painting.

Model fee of $120 included in tuition
