SA 8 CLASSICAL FIGURE DRAWING (& PAINTING) with Joshua Langstaff
10 Weeks
Thursday, 10 – 1 October 9 – December 18 (no class November 27)
This class focuses on the foundational skills needed to draw the human figure with convincing realism. After practicing their skills with short poses, students will work from a live model, to develop a single, sustained figure drawing over several weeks. Instruction will emphasize proportion, anatomy, and shaping light and shadow to create the illusion of form. Although this is a drawing course, students with prior experience—particularly those who have worked with the instructor—may choose to work in oil paint. The class is rooted in the classical atelier tradition, a method of training that shaped artists from Gérôme and Sargent to Cassatt and Picasso. Whether you're looking to deepen your draftsmanship or move toward painting, this course offers a focused, immersive experience in representational figure work. $110 model fee included in tuition
