10 Weeks
Wednesday 6 – 9
October 7 - December 16 (no class November 25)
This class presents a structured approach to building strong composition in painting. Understanding how visual relationships coexist, interact, and push and pull against each other is essential for a painter’s ability to manipulate the compositional dynamics inside a painting. Using still-life as our subject, we will concentrate on the manipulation of space and form, position, shape, changes in scale, value, and color with the intention of building mastery of composition. Projects will range from short exercises of value and color studies to longer still- life paintings. Group discussion of concepts and of student work will also take place. Robert demonstrates in oils, but acrylic painters are welcome.
