4 Weeks Thursdays 2 – 5pm
June 18 – July 9
Expressive and experimental approaches to making Monotypes without a press. Monotype is a way of making a unique print by pressing paper against a painted or inked surface. In this 4-week course, students will learn methods and techniques to make and print monotypes without the use of a printing press. Monotype lends itself to playful experimentation and abstraction, and to drawing and painting simultaneously onto the working surface. With the landscape as subject, students may use photographs and sketches to explore expressive and gestural means of making images. In addition to the basic technical aspects of learning monotype, we will explore making dynamic compositions derived from observing the landscape. Emphasis will be placed on building strong pictorial hierarchies of value, color, and formal relationships. Lastly, we’ll allow space for the unexpected outcomes that often result from the monotype process. Materials list sent upon registration.
